Occupational Health Services
Marijuana Screening
With changing laws and attitudes towards marijuana, you may choose to exclude marijuana from your drug screening process. However, screening for other substances remains critically important to maintain a safe and productive workplace.
Our Drug Testing Methods
We offer multiple specimen collection types depending on your detection window needs and workplace policy.
Urine Testing
Detects recent drug use within the past 1–3 days for most substances (up to 30 days for chronic marijuana use).
Hair Follicle Testing
Identifies drug use patterns over the past 90 days. Not affected by short-term abstinence.
Saliva Testing
Detects very recent use, typically within the last 24–48 hours. Non-invasive, difficult to adulterate, and suitable for post-accident testing.
Lab-Based Testing Features
Multi-Panel Screens
10-Panel Drug Test: Adds Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Propoxyphene, and Quaaludes to the 5-panel test.
12-Panel Drug Test: Includes all substances in the 10-panel test plus additional drugs like Ecstasy (MDMA) etc.
Random Testing Programs
A random drug testing program is one of the most effective deterrents against workplace substance abuse.
Employees are selected using a scientifically randomized process, meaning anyone in the testing pool is equally eligible at any time.
Our managed random testing programs include:
- Random selection pool management
- Regulatory compliance tracking (DOT, non-DOT)
- Annual rate configuration (e.g., 25% / 50%)
- Electronic notifications to supervisors
- Chain-of-custody documentation
- MRO review and reporting
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a drug test take?
Most urine drug tests produce results within 24–72 business hours. Negative results are typically returned faster. Hair follicle tests generally take 2–3 business days.
What drugs are tested in a 5-panel drug test?
A standard 5-panel test screens for marijuana (THC), cocaine, opiates (including codeine and morphine), amphetamines (including methamphetamine), and phencyclidine (PCP).
How long does THC stay in urine?
Detection times vary by frequency of use. Occasional users (1–3 times per week) may test positive for 3–4 days. Moderate users (4 or more times per week) can test positive for 5–7 days. Daily or heavy users may show a positive result for up to 30 days or longer.
Can you fail a drug test for caffeine?
No. Standard workplace drug tests do not screen for caffeine. Tests are designed to detect controlled substances, and caffeine is not among them.
What is a dilute sample?
A dilute sample has higher-than-normal water content, indicated by low creatinine and specific gravity levels. This can result from excessive water intake before testing. \
What is the difference between pre-employment and random testing?
Pre-employment testing is conducted after a conditional job offer and before an employee starts work. Random testing is conducted on an unannounced, ongoing basis throughout employment.
Can employees be tested for marijuana if it is legal in our state?
In most cases, yes. While marijuana is legal recreationally or medically in many states, federal law still classifies it as a controlled substance. Most private employers and all DOT-regulated employers retain the right to maintain a drug-free workplace policy and enforce a zero-tolerance stance on marijuana.
