Are the resources in the Bchex Resource Library free?
Yes. Every report, guide and tool here is free. Downloads ask for your name, work email and organization so we can send you a copy. The assessments, the Background Check Guide and the Screening Hero course cost nothing, and the guide doesn’t need an email at all.
What does a background check show?
It depends on the searches ordered. Most employment background checks include an identity check, a criminal record search and a sex offender registry search, and many add employment, education or driving record checks. Our guide to what’s in a background check report walks through each part, and the free Screening Glossary defines every term.
Which background check do I need for a role?
It depends on the role, where the person has lived and who they’ll be around. The free Background Check Guide asks a few questions about the role and builds a plain-English checklist of which searches fit and why. Our team can look it over with you.
How do I compare background check companies?
Start with The Honest Background Screening Comparison. It scores more than 25 vendors, Bchex included, across eleven buyer categories on one rubric, and it names the categories where Bchex isn’t the fit. Our comparison of background screening companies covers the same ground in short form.
What is the 2026 Background Screening Buyer Report?
It’s Bchex’s survey of 150+ HR and hiring leaders on how they choose, rate and stay with background screening vendors. 59% say they aren’t loyal to their current provider, yet 81% have stayed with that vendor for three or more years. The report explains the gap, and it’s a free download on this page.
Can employers do a social media background check?
In the US, many employers screen candidates’ public social media through a background screening company that follows the Fair Credit Reporting Act: with the candidate’s consent, and only for publicly available, job-related behavior. Some states add their own rules. Our free legal guide covers federal and state law, and a sample report shows what employers see.
Where can I find volunteer background check resources?
Start with State of School Volunteerism 2026, which shares what more than 10,000 school volunteers and administrators told us about safety and screening, and The Background Check Survival Guide for parks and recreation programs. For volunteer screening and management in one place, see SecureVolunteer, built by Bchex.
Can I earn free SHRM PDCs?
Yes. Screening Hero, Bchex’s free background screening course, is SHRM-certified and earns 4 PDCs toward SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification. It runs 14 modules and a final assessment at your own pace, with lessons from Bchex CEO Ken Monroe.
Who makes the Bchex Resource Library?
